It’s been ages since I visited Daegu, and I recently attended the Mixed Reality Adventure event held at the 83 Tower inside E-World. As the Kaleidoscope VR Korea Community Director, I participated in this event to introduce the work Out of the Blue by Sophie Ansel, a VR director invited from Sydney, and assisted with interpretation.
This work captures the true story of a small fishing village in Mexico through VR footage, with the underwater scenery being the highlight of the film. She was one of the top 10 directors selected by Oculus. While escorting her down to Daegu on the KTX, we had many conversations that allowed me to understand the creator’s thoughts and vision. Director Sophie, particularly interested in the interaction between the sea and humanity, possessed a talent for weaving small stories into deep narratives. Her charm seemed to stem from her humanity, built through experiences exploring remote parts of Asia and interacting with many minority tribes. I’m sharing an interview with Sophie from another event and a promotional video for her film.
