두 개의 직업을 가진 사람을 투잡(Two Job), 세 개의 직업을 가진 사람을 쓰리잡(Three Job)이라고 부르는 콩글리쉬 표현이 있는데 3개의 이상의 직업을 가진 사람을 지칭하여 N잡러라는 신조어까지 생겼습니다. 세개 이상의 직업을 가진 사람은 주로 전문직에 종사하는 프리랜서들에게 해당이 될텐데 저 역시 택배 개인 사업과 사업 개발직 그리고 암호화폐 트레이딩까지 합치면 세가지 이상이라서 N잡러라고 생각합니다.
There’s an English expression called a two-job person, and a three-job person, and there’s even a neologism called an N-jobber, which refers to a person who has three or more jobs. I think it applies to freelancers who have three or more jobs and are mainly in the professional field, but I think I’m an N-jobber because I have three or more jobs, including my own courier business, business development, and cryptocurrency trading.
저는 매일 4시반 경에 일어나 암호화폐 시장 상황부터 확인하는 것으로 하루를 시작합니다. 암호화폐 전문 유투버들의 방송으로 보통 시황을 파악하는데 두바이, 미국과 뉴질랜드에서 활동하는 여러 유투버들의 방송을 보면서 차트 분석과 뉴스 브리핑을 받습니다. 모두 다른 시간대에 있기 때문에 하루 중 언제라도 가장 최신의 뉴스를 보도해 주는 세계 각국에 파견나간 특파원같은 역할을 하고 있습니다. MMcrypto, Bitboy Crypto, Bitshua, Lark Davis, Coin Bureau, Alessio Rastani 외에도 새로운 채널을 계속 찾으면서 나만의 관점을 만드려고 합니다. 참고로 이들 중 어떤 이는 운용 자산이 한화로 100억이 넘는 경우도 있고 개인 제트기와 고급 스포츠카를 타면서 호화로운 저택에서 방송을 하는 이도 있는데 자산운용회사가 아닌 개인 단위로서는 대단한 수준이라고 생각합니다. 또 어떤 유튜버들은 전직 주식 트레이더라서 전문가 수준으로 차트분석을 해 주기 때문에 매일 새벽에 일어나서 전세계 최고의 전문가들의 분석과 조언을 들으면서 저 나름대로의 가설의 세우고 트레이딩을 하고 있습니다. 작년 1년 동안은 주 6일동안 새벽배송을 하기 위해 인천 전지역을 운전하며 유튜브 방송이나 오디오북을 들으면서 차가 정차하면 트레이딩을 했는데 이제는 새벽배송 업무를 하지 않게 되어서 집에서 하고 있습니다.
I start my day by waking up around 4:30am and checking the crypto markets. I usually watch cryptocurrency YouTubers to get an idea of what’s going on, and I have several YouTubers based in Dubai, the US, and New Zealand who give me chart analysis and news briefings. They’re all in different time zones, so they’re like international correspondents reporting the latest news at any time of the day. In addition to MMcrypto, Bitboy Crypto, Bitshua, Lark Davis, Coin Bureau, and Alessio Rastani, I keep finding new channels to create my own perspective. Some of these YouTubers have over $10 billion in assets under management, and some of them broadcast from lavish mansions with private jets and luxury sports cars, which I think is pretty amazing for an individual, not an asset management firm. Some YouTubers are former stock traders and do expert-level technical analysis, so I wake up at the crack of dawn every day to listen to the analysis and advice of some of the best minds in the world, and then make my own hypothesis and trade. For the past year, I used to drive around Incheon six days a week to make early morning deliveries, listening to YouTube broadcasts or audiobooks and trading when the car stops, but now that I don’t have an early morning delivery job, I’m doing it from home.
주로 새벽 시간에는 최근 읽었던 책의 북리뷰나 성경 말씀이나 QT 묵상 일상생활 혹은 투자 경험에 대한 블로그 글을 쓰는데 글을 통해서 저의 여러가지 생각을 정리하고 제가 얼마나 그 분야에 대해서 알고 있는지 스스로 점검하는 시간을 갖습니다. 오디오북을 계속 읽지만 아무런 기록을 남기지 않으면 책제목만 남기 때문에 짧게라도 북리뷰를 하고 주일 예배 설교나 좋은 묵상의 글을 읽고 느꼈던 단상을 기록합니다. 그리고 블로긍의 각 카테고리 별로 기록하며 놓고 여러 사람들과 만나면서 글을 함께 공유하면서 제 생각을 나누는 것이 너무 즐겁고 재미있습니다. 그리고 인천e몰 쇼핑몰에 들어온 반찬 주문을 확인하여 본점에 발주를 하고 고객 문의에 대응을 하는데, 아직 주문건이 많지는 않지만 인천e음 카드의 10% 캐시백의 베네핏 때문에 점차 기존 고객들이 늘어나고 있는 추세입니다. 반찬 새벽배송을 했던 1년동안 주 6일 하루도 빠짐없이 인천 전 지역을 새벽에 운전하며 배송을 했지만 이제는 쇼핑몰 관리만 하게 되어 얼마나 감사한지 모릅니다.
In the early morning hours, I usually write a book review of a book I’ve recently read, a blog post about a Bible verse, a QT devotional, my daily life, or an investment experience, and I use writing as a way to organize my thoughts and see how much I know about an area. I keep listening to audiobooks, but if I don’t write anything down, only the title of the book remains, so I write a book review, even if it’s short, and record my thoughts after reading a Sunday service sermon or a good devotional text, and I write it down in each category of the blog, and it’s so fun and interesting to share my thoughts while meeting with various people and sharing my posts with them. I also check the orders for banchan that have come in from Incheon e-mall shopping mall, place orders to the main store, and respond to customer inquiries, and although there are not many orders yet, the number of existing customers is gradually increasing due to the 10% cash back benefit of the Incheon e-money card. For a year, I drove all over Incheon six days a week to deliver banchan at dawn, but now I’m grateful that I only have to manage the mall.
7시부터는 주로 실시간 방송을 유튜브 채널로 청취하며 최근 뉴스와 이슈 업데이트를 받습니다. 날씨가 좋은 날에는 달빛공원을 따라 운동을 하면서 떠오르는 태양을 맞이하기도 하는데 일출은 하루를 힘차게 시작할 수 있는 큰 보상이자 에너지의 원천입니다. 운동을 하고 돌아오면 오전 8시쯤 되는데, 그럼 집안을 좀 치우거나 설거를 하고 아침밥을 준비하여 아이들을 깨우고 막내를 어린이집에 데려다 줍니다. 9시 이후에는 송도 최고의 오션뷰를 가진 사무실로 출근하여아고라 한국지사의 업무를 본격적으로 시작하여 회사 이메일을 확인하고 전날 있었던 비즈니스 미팅이나 보고 사항을 정리를 하여 본사에게 보고합니다. 또한 고객사 기술 지원용 메신저인 슬랙채널에서 고객사들의 많은 이슈를 파악하고 본사의 기술 담당자에게 사내 메신저로 공유합니다.
From 7am onwards, I usually listen to live broadcasts on my YouTube channel to get updates on the latest news and issues. If the weather is nice, I’ll also go for a run along Moonlight Park to greet the rising sun, which is a great reward and source of energy to start the day. When I get back from my workout, it’s around 8am, and then I tidy up the house, wash the dishes, make breakfast, wake up the kids, and take the youngest to daycare. After 9:00, I head to the office with the best ocean view in Songdo and start my work day at Agora Korea, checking company emails, organizing business meetings and reports from the previous day and reporting to the headquarters. I also identify many issues from clients on Slack, a messenger for client technical support, and share them with the technical staff at the headquarters via internal messenger.
또한 새로운 고객을 발굴하기 위해서 잠재고객사의 담당자를 주로 링크드인이나 세일즈포스 등을 활용하여 마치 짚더미에서 바늘을 찾는 것 같이 사업 개발 기회를 찾습니다. 비지니스 미팅은 주로 오후 시간으로 잡아서 고객사가 있는 서울이나 판교로 자주 가곤 하는데 특별히 고객사의 요청에 따라 화상통화로 진행하는 경우가 아니면 30분을 만나도 한시간 넘게 운전하여 담당자를 직접 만나고 돌아옵니다. 간단한 비지니스 미팅이라도 저는 거리를 마다하지 않고 고객사를 방문하는 이유는 회사와 서비스 소개를 하는 목적보다는 한국 지사에도 담당자가 있다는 것을 직접 확인시켜 드리고 개발팀에 대한 본사 기술 지원 커뮤니케이션에 통역으로 도움을 드리기 위해서입니다. 요즈음 스타트업에서 만나는 사업팀 담당자들의 영어 실력은 정말 놀라울 정도라서 사실 저의 통역이 필요없는 경우가 많은데 그래도 한마디라도 고객편에서 정확히 전달하기 위해 최선을 다하고 있습니다.
To find new clients, I use LinkedIn, Salesforce, etc. to find business development opportunities, like finding a needle in a haystack. For business meetings, I usually schedule them in the afternoon and often travel to Seoul or Pangyo, where the customer is located, and unless it’s a video call at the customer’s request, I drive more than an hour to meet the representative in person, even if it’s a 30-minute meeting. Even if it’s a simple business meeting, I don’t mind the distance to visit the customer’s office, not to introduce the company and its services, but to confirm that there is a representative in Korea, and to help translate the headquarters’ technical support communication to the development team. These days, the English skills of the business team representatives I meet at startups are so amazing that they often don’t need me to translate, but I still do my best to make sure that every word is understood by the customer.
한편 매일 오후에 송도의 한 아파트 단지 안에서 부모님이 택배배송 도우미 일을 하시는데 시간이 되는 날은 배송을 도와드리고 함께 점심 식사를 하기도 합니다. 함께 노동을 통해 땀을 흘리고 맛있는 점심을 사드릴 때 보람과 행복을 느낍니다. 오후 6시가 되면 택배집하를 시작하는데 늦어도 7시까지는 고객사에 도착해서 트럭에 당일 발송을 해야하는 식품과 물건들을 하나하나 모두 스캐너로 등록하고 트럭에 실은 뒤 물류 터미널에 오후 8시쯤에 도착하여 상차를 마치면 저녁 9시쯤 됩니다. 그리고 저녁 늦게 퇴근하여 야식을 조금 먹고 막내 아기와 놀아주다가 재워줍니다. 아직 답장을 못 한 메일을 회신하거나 블로그나 소셜 미디어를 업데이트 하면 보통 10시가 넘고 마지막으로 헤드폰으로 오디오북으로 들으면서 11시쯤 잠이 듭니다. 이렇게 여러가지 다른 일을 하고 있지만 개인사업자, 직장인 그리고 투자자의 관점으로 세상을 보면서 경제의 흐름과 뉴스를 파악하며 최신 IT 솔루션 사업개발을 통해 다양한 업계의 사람들을 만나고, 이동중에는 오디오북이나 유투브 채널을 통해 지식을 쌓거나 뉴스를 업데이트하여 정리된 생각을 다시 다음 날 새벽시간에 독후감이나 블로그 글로 남기며 바쁘지만 여유로운 N잡러의 삶을 살게 되었습니다.
Meanwhile, every afternoon, my parents work as delivery drivers in an apartment complex in Songdo, and when I have time, I help them make deliveries and have lunch with them. I feel rewarded and happy when we work together, sweating and buying them a delicious lunch. I start picking up deliveries around 6pm, and by 7pm at the latest, I’m at the client’s office, scanning and loading the truck with all the food and stuff that needs to be shipped that day, and then I arrive at the distribution terminal around 8pm, and by the time I’m done unloading, it’s around 9pm. Then I get off work late in the evening, have a little late-night snack, play with my youngest baby, and put him to bed. If I reply to any emails I haven’t gotten around to answering yet or update my blog or social media, I’m usually up by 10pm and finally fall asleep around 11pm with an audiobook on my headphones. Although I have many different jobs, I live a busy but relaxed life as an N-journalist, watching the world from the perspective of an entrepreneur, an employee, and an investor, keeping up with economic trends and news, meeting people from various industries through business development of the latest IT solutions, and updating my knowledge and news through audiobooks or YouTube channels while on the go, so that I can write down my organized thoughts as a book report or blog post in the early hours of the next day.
