이순신 장군의 가장 큰 해전 승리 중 하나인 한산대첩을 소재로 한 영화 한산이 관객 500만명을 넘었다고 합니다. 저는 오디오북 버전을 최근에 들으면서 영화보다도 더 실감나고 생생한 성우의 연기로 책을 읽으면서 큰 감동을 받았습니다. 어느 국가나 국가의 위기가 닥치면 시민들과 국민들이 일어나 그들의 가족과 공동체를 지키고 나가아 민족을 위기로부터 탈출 시키는 역사가 있는 것을 보게 됩니다. 성경 사사기에 나오는 이스라엘 민족의 영웅들과 프랑스 혁명의 시민들의 역사 그리고 대한민국의 일제 강점기 속의 독립 운동가들의 영웅적인 이야기들은 역사와 민족을 뛰어넘는 감동을 주고 있습니다.
The movie Hansan, based on one of General Yi Sun-sin’s greatest naval victories, the Battle of Hansan, has reportedly been seen by over 5 million people. I recently listened to the audiobook version and was deeply moved by the book, which was read by a voice actor who brought the book to life, even more so than the movie. Whenever there is a crisis in any country or nation, we see a history of citizens and nationals rising up to defend their families and communities, going out and pulling their nation out of the crisis. The heroes of the Israelites in the biblical book of Judges, the citizens of the French Revolution, and the independence fighters during the Japanese occupation of Korea are inspiring stories that transcend history and ethnicity.
한산대첩의 이야기를 세계 해전 역사의 관점에서 극적인 전투에서의 승리와 그것을 발판 삼아 일본의 조선 침략의 흐름을 바꿔놓은 중대한 역사적 사실로 바라보는 것 이외에 이순신이라는 걸출한 영웅과 그를 둘러싼 여러 소영웅들 그리고 평범한 시민들의 용감한 역할로 인해 그 위기를 잘 극복할 수 있게 된 실제 이야기와 같은 소설을 읽으면서 나는 과연 어떠한 인물과 유사한 생각과 행동을 했을까하고 돌아보게 되었습니다. 사실 누구나 영웅이 되거나 매국노도 될 수 있다고 생각하는데 각자 개인들이 내린 작은 결정으로 인한 결과가 모여 역사의 큰 흐름이 되기 때문일 것입니다. 모두 이순신이 되고 싶어하겠지만 지나고 보면 원균이 되어 있는 경우가 더 많을 것입니다. 그래서 이순신 장군처럼 살아야겠다고 다짐하고 새벽 4시 반에 일어나 블로그를 쓰고 힘차게 하루를 시작했습니다.
