오랜만에 새벽기도 예배에 참석하여 미국 샌프란시스코에서 오신 목사님의 설교를 들으면서 마치 산호세 온누리교회에 다닐 때 새벽기도에 참석하던 과거의 추억이 떠올랐습니다. 특별 새벽기도 이벤트로 21일로 연속 참석하던 다니엘 새벽기도회, 40일 작정 새벽 기도회에 개근 출석을 목표로 매일 새벽에 280 고속도로를 운전하던 기억이 아직도 생생합니다.
Attending the dawn prayer service after a long time and listening to the sermon by the pastor from San Francisco, USA, brought back memories of attending dawn prayers when I was a member of Onnuri Church in San Jose. I still vividly remember driving on Highway 280 every morning for 40 days to attend the Daniel Dawn Prayer Meeting, a special dawn prayer event, with the goal of perfect attendance.
그 당시 적었던 설교 노트를 보면 간절했던 기도 제목을 두고 끈질기게 기도하며 기도 제목이 이루어지면 열 명의 나병 환자 중 예수님께 돌아와 감사와 영광을 돌렸던 사마리아인처럼 다시 새벽 기도 자리로 돌아와 감사의 기도를 드렸습니다. 미국 서브 프라임 모기지 사태로 인해 경제가 위기에 처하고 회사들의 도산과 감축 등으로 제가 담당했던 주요 고객사로부터 일방적으로 파트너 납품 계약 해지 통보를 받고 텅 빈 큰 사무실에 혼자 앉아서 할 일이 없어서 망연자실하고 있던 때가 기억이 납니다. 대기업에서 이직하여 어린 아들과 아내와 미국으로 주재원으로 파견 나온지 1년도 안되서 그런 고난을 당하게 되니 다급한 마음에 매일 새벽 기도에 나가지 않으면 안되었습니다. 그런데 그 이후 게임 컨퍼런스에서 기적적으로 디즈니사와 연결이 되었고 6개월이 넘는 협상과 개발 및 테스트 과정을 거쳐 콜라보한 게임을 완성하였습니다. 공동 프로젝트가 완성되고 미국 버라이즌의 게임 메뉴에 프로모션 배너가 걸린 것을 시애틀 출장 중 스페이스 니들 타워의 레스토랑에서 확인을 하던 그 순간, 할렐루야를 외치며 감사 기도를 하던 모습은 마치 영화의 한 장면 같았습니다.
Looking at the sermon notes I wrote at that time, I see that I prayed persistently for my earnest prayer requests, and when they were answered, I returned to my dawn prayer place to offer prayers of thanksgiving, just like the Samaritan who returned to Jesus with thanks and glory among the ten lepers. I remember a time when the economy was in crisis due to the US subprime mortgage crisis, and companies were going bankrupt and downsizing. I received a unilateral notice of termination of my partner supply contract from a major client I was responsible for, and I sat alone in a large, empty office with nothing to do, feeling utterly lost. Less than a year after leaving a large corporation and being dispatched to the United States as an expatriate with my young son and wife, I faced such hardship that I felt compelled to attend dawn prayers every day. But then, miraculously, I connected with Disney at a game conference, and after more than six months of negotiations, development, and testing, we completed a collaborative game. When the joint project was completed and I saw the promotional banner on Verizon’s game menu while on a business trip to Seattle, sitting in a restaurant in the Space Needle Tower, the moment I shouted “Hallelujah” and gave thanks in prayer was like a scene from a movie.
그래서 그 간절함과 감사함을 떠올리며 오늘도 새벽 4시반에 일어나 새벽 기도 예배에 참석하고 하루를 힘차게 시작했습니다.
So, remembering that earnestness and gratitude, I woke up at 4:30 a.m. again today, attended the dawn prayer service, and started the day energetically.
