인구 감소는 지속적으로 사회 경제 정치 모든 면에서 우리의 삶에 영향을 미치고 있습니다. 대한민국이 한국 전쟁 이후에 이렇게 빠르게 성장할 수 있었던 것은 베이비붐 세대의 희생과 가난으로부터 탈출하고자 하는 강력한 의지 때문이라고 생각합니다. 그 결과 전세계에서 유래를 찾을 수 없을 만큼 빠르게 가난으로부터 탈출했고 엄청난 발전을 이루었지만 이제는 그 동력을 잃어버린 것 같은 암울한 상황입니다. 서울의 도심이나 번화가에서는 그런 변화를 느끼기 쉽지 않지만 지방 도시에 가보면 젊은 사람을 찾기 힘들거나 그 마저 직장을 찾아 모두 수도권으로 이주하기 때문에 앞으로 더욱 지방 소도시의 몰락이 예상됩니다. 앞으로 10년 안에 대한민국의 인구 구조는 더욱 역삼각형 구조로 바뀌면서 한 명의 경제 활동이 가능한 인구가 부양해야 하는 부모의 세대가 3명으로 늘어난다는 얘기를 들으면서 겁이 났습니다.
Population decline continues to affect our lives in all aspects of socio-economic and political life. I think the reason why South Korea was able to grow so fast after the Korean War was because of the sacrifices of the baby boomers and their strong will to escape poverty, and as a result, we grew out of poverty faster than any other country in the world and made tremendous progress, but now it’s a bleak situation where we seem to have lost that momentum. It’s not easy to feel that change in the city center or downtown Seoul, but if you go to the provincial cities, it’s hard to find young people, or they’re all moving to the metropolitan areas for work, so I think we’re going to see more of a decline in the smaller cities. It scares me to hear that in the next 10 years, Korea’s demographic structure will become even more inverted triangular, with one working-age population having three parents to support.
그 해결책은 북한의 흡수 통일과 전세계 디아스포라 코레아인들의 대한민국으로의 이주라고 생각합니다. 중국의 조선족과 카자흐스탄의 고려인 그리고 미국에 거주하는 교포들을 통일 한국으로 이주시킬 수 있다면 다시 한번 베이비붐 때와 같은 엄청난 성장을 시킬 수 있지 않을까 생각이 들었습니다. K팝과 K드라마 덕분에 한국 문화의 영향으로 많은 국가에서 한국어를 공부하는 사람들이 많아지고 있기 때문에 이런 트렌드를 이용해 그들을 한국으로 데려오거나 해외 지사를 설립해 자본과 인력이 원활하게 흐를 수 있도록 한다면 인구 감소를 인구 폭발의 기회로 바꿀 수 있겠다는 대담한 상상을 해 봤습니다. 그렇게 하기 위한 가장 빠른 방법은 스타트업 조직을 전세계에 거점 사무실 위주로 두고 그곳에서 영업, 마케팅, 개발 및 생산을 하게 하는 것입니다. 스타트업의 핵심 목적과 기능에 맞도록 조직을 만들고 문화를 정착해 나가면 인구 감소 문제를 해결할 수 있다고 생각하며 그런 스타트업을 위해 오늘도 새벽에 일어나 블로그를 쓰고 힘차게 하루를 시작합니다.
I think the solution is an absorptive reunification of North Korea and the migration of Koreans in the diaspora around the world to Korea. If we can move the Koreans in China, the Koreans in Kazakhstan, and the Koreans living in the U.S. to a unified Korea, we can once again have a huge growth like the baby boom. Thanks to K-pop and K-dramas, more people are studying Korean in many countries because of the influence of Korean culture, so I boldly imagined that we could turn a population decline into a population explosion if we could capitalize on this trend and bring them to Korea or set up overseas offices to facilitate the flow of capital and talent. The fastest way to do this is to organize your startup around offices around the world and have sales, marketing, development, and production there. I believe we can solve the population decline problem by creating an organization and culture that aligns with the core purpose and function of a startup, and that’s what gets me up at the crack of dawn to write this blog and start my day.
