As I followed the recent US presidential election with interest, I was able to understand the various crises and conflicts facing American society through the debate between Trump and Harris. The confrontation between the two parties is not only about foreign policy or economic policy, but also about pro- and anti-abortion and eventually about gender. When I look at the Republican and Democratic parties, I see one side recognizing the differences between men and women and protecting the family and other values, and the other side tearing down biblical values and shaking up the established order with humanistic values.
In particular, I found that the policies of the Democratic Party are anti-biblical and anti-Christian, and while on the surface they appear to be inclusive of many different values and advocate for equality and non-discrimination, they put human beings at the center of the existing order and use control and reverse discrimination. For example, after legalizing same-sex marriage, they actually reverse discriminate against those who do not support it, such as a bakery owner who was sued for refusing to sell his cake to a same-sex wedding. I also lived in San Jose, California, where I experienced several cases of reverse discrimination, both directly and indirectly, including a parent calling in sick to her child because she couldn’t openly object to taking her elementary school students on a field trip to a same-sex wedding. There’s even a site dedicated to how to respond to reverse discrimination in public schools.
It can be said that my political views are shaped by the image of the candidate of the political party I support, the policies that are directly related to my interests, and peer pressure among generations, but in fact, I think that fundamental values are the root of my thoughts and the difference between them creates this conflict. One side believes that this world was created by God’s word, and I follow God’s word and law because I am an imperfect being as his creature, and the other side believes that human beings are created by chance and are evolving in infinite time, and human beings should be liberated from all restraints and oppression, including God.
In that sense, on November 5, 2024, the United States will cast a historic vote and make a national decision about which values to follow. It is not an exaggeration to say that the outcome of this election will determine the fate of the United States as a nation, and the standard will have a tremendous impact on the world, so Korea will be no exception. The mainstream media in the United States has set a direction and is supporting one party or the other, and the Korean media is taking the story and reproducing it verbatim. I myself used to follow the mainstream media and the crowd when I lived in the US, when I was politically apathetic and didn’t know what the underlying values were behind policies and politicians’ words.
In the past, I was looking at the world through a narrow gaze in the direction they wanted me to go, not my thoughts and perspective, but now, as I look at politics, society, and the economy with my spiritual eyes open, I begin to see the spiritual warfare behind it and realize that I am in the midst of it. This spiritual warfare has probably been going on since the creation of the world and I see it manifesting itself little by little even in the end times that I am living in now. In this age of wars between nations and natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods, I am determined to hold on to the unshakable Word of God and pray that God will intervene and bring about a miracle in this American presidential election, just as He did in the Korean presidential election.
