Dr. Lee Chun-geun’s statement that the three nations beloved by God are the United States, Israel, and the Republic of Korea, along with his explanation that South Korea adopted the three pillars of freedom, democracy, and a market economy from the United States and established the ROK-U.S. Alliance as a fourth pillar to lay the foundation of the nation, was extremely accurate. The Constitution of the Republic of Korea, modeled after the U.S. Constitution—which was written based on the Ten Commandments, the Word of God—had a solid foundation. I felt I understood why the countless spiritual and political wars waged to this day to destroy this foundation were ultimately doomed to fail.
I realized that even in the face of South Korea’s visible communist policies, election fraud, and evil laws aimed at destroying families, the individual’s freedom and spirit of independence cannot be suppressed. Despite the attacks by leftist agitators—who defrauded the entire nation with fake vaccines and distorted “nuclear-treated water” into “contaminated water” through false propaganda—the Christians of South Korea have survived to the very end. This may be because not only Christians within the country but also the ten million members of the diaspora scattered across the globe are praying day and night for their homeland.
As we mark Good Friday, South Korea is going through a period that feels as though it is trapped in the darkest, gloomiest tunnel in its history. Just as the young Syngman Rhee, sentenced to life imprisonment in the Hanseong Prison, wrote The Spirit of Independence to awaken the people, President Yoon Suk-yeol—who sensed the crisis facing South Korea and sought to urge the people to awaken through martial law—was also resisting the communist regime while reading the Bible in prison. As I read the letter he sent to the people, I was deeply moved by the sight of this great Christian leader praying that this would be a Resurrection Sunday in which we “submit to suffering, embrace the hope of salvation, and be reborn as children of God.” I also came to deeply realize that he, too, is participating in Jesus’s suffering ministry on the cross.
Satan, who executed Jesus on the cross and deluded himself into thinking he had won, was defeated by Jesus’ resurrection three days later and was destined to fall into hell. Just as Jesus willingly took up the cross for the salvation of humanity, President Yoon seemed to have laid down his life for the people. Anticipating the dramatic turnaround that will soon bring the joy of the resurrection and the glory of Jesus who has overcome the power of death, I rise at dawn once again today to write this blog post and begin the day with gratitude.
Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, he also shared the same things in the same way. He did this to destroy the one who holds the power over death—the devil—by dying. He set free those who were held in slavery their entire lives by their fear of death. (Hebrews 2: 14~15)
