We have entered an era where “solopreneurs”—a portmanteau of ‘solo’ and “entrepreneur”—are making their mark with the help of powerful AI tools. Developers can now break free from company projects and freely engage in various projects, while marketers can use “Vibe Coding” to plan and launch new services or products tailored to market demand, starting from the MVP (Minimum Viable Product) stage. Sales and business development professionals can also easily create product brochures and promotional videos to present to clients, and translate them into the desired languages for delivery.
One day, at my youngest child’s request, I used Claude to build a Super Mario Bros.-style music player and experienced Vibe Coding together with my child. It was truly amazing to watch the process unfold right before my eyes—simply organizing my thoughts and speaking them aloud resulted in the creation of something tangible. It made me realize that the boundaries between professions are likely to continue breaking down. It’s now possible for a developer to plan or design a product, or for a marketer to handle development and testing themselves.
I, too, rely on AI tools for everything from writing formal emails and translating contracts to proofreading blog posts. Recently, I even fed a summary of my blog post to an AI agent and used an AI avatar modeled after my face to create YouTube Shorts content. Watching content where an AI avatar that looked just like me read the script in my voice, I felt I needed to jump on the massive wave of AI as soon as possible.
Recently, I met with two developers from a client company who had each left their jobs to become solo freelancers, working on personal development projects, YouTube tutorials, and writing books. They both felt constrained by work restrictions and limited opportunities for self-development within their companies, and they sensed the massive wave of the AI era—they were determined to seize that opportunity before it was too late. Coincidentally, a voluntary retirement program was announced, so they resigned with special severance pay. Since they were both high-performing employees, from the company’s perspective, it felt like they were paying to lose valuable talent.
Since they had already proven themselves in the market through their YouTube channels, online courses, and books, it seemed they would be able to live freer and happier lives based on their own efforts. Wanting to help them, I decided to invite them to be instructors for a hackathon this summer, and we agreed to stay in touch and collaborate frequently going forward. I also need to upgrade my youngest child’s Super Mario music player with the help of an AI developer.
